CDS invites applications for Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Migration Studies |
|
|
The Research Unit on International Migration instituted by the Ministry of Indian Overseas Affairs, Government of India at the Centre undertakes extensive research in all facets of internal and international migration. The Unit also trains young researchers engaged in migration research and professionals handling issues concerning migration.
The Centre invites applications for Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Migration Studies for the Unit from candidates holding Doctorates (2009-11 awardees) in Social Sciences preferably in migration or related topics. Those who have submitted their dissertations in 2011 can also apply. Age limit is 40 years. The selected Fellows are expected to conduct research strictly in the area of migration and produce original results which could lead to high quality policy papers and publications. The fellowships are purely temporary research assignments and the initial duration is one year and may be extendable. The fellowship is Rs.35,000/- per month consolidated. Please apply with a curriculum vitae, two references, a synopsis of the doctoral thesis and a copy each of the two main research articles/conference papers to The Registrar, Centre for Development Studies, Prashanth Nagar, Ulloor, Thiruvananthapuram 695 011, before January 31, 2012.

Eighth short term training programme on Methods and Approaches in Research on Migration Issues |

March 26 - 30, 2012 Migration research has gained prominence in today’s globalised world given its relevance for the economy and society at large. Interest in migration studies has widened beyond the discipline of demography due to its manifold implications. The programme, offered from 2006, is designed and offered by Research Unit on International Migration instituted by the Ministry of Indian Overseas Affairs as part of its mission to train young scholars engaged in research on migration. The programme intends to acquaint researchers with emerging issues and consequences of internal and international migration and familiarize them with research tools to conduct surveys on migration as well as to assess magnitudes, characteristics, flows and implications of migration based on types and sources of data.
Applications are invited for the eighth residential editions of the programme to be conducted during March 26 - 30, 2012. Researchers and doctoral scholars of Social Sciences working on migration and related issues are encouraged to apply. Fifteen participants will be selected for each programme based on their suitability and they will be offered three- tier AC train fare from the shortest route, free board and lodging. Conference on Kerala's Economy and Society: Situating the Present, Imagining the Future |

February 27 - 28, 2012The conference is meant for academicians, research students, policy makers and members of the civil society. There will be seven sessions, each session reflecting a specific theme, spread over two days. Each of the sessions will have papers ranging from two to four.
