Training Programme on Panchayati Raj in Kerala (22 March 2017)

The RULSG held a one-day training programme on Panchayati Raj in Kerala for members of the transgender community organizations and representatives of LGBQI non-governmental organizations at CDS on 22 March 2017. The meeting was attended by 24 members and leaders of these groups. The two sessions, on the structure, functions, services, and activities of the PRIs were followed by active discussions, towards the preparation of a strategy brief and a lobby note for these groups to make use of welfare provisions, and to create space for themselves in local self-government. Participants then engaged in a collective exercise to put together a viable project idea for the Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat.

The workshop was part of the RULSGI’s broader effort to create an active interface between extremely marginalised social groups in Kerala and the PRI institution. The next step is to be the presentation of a draft strategy brief and lobby note to the community, and the facilitation of interaction between the PRIs and TG and LGBQI groups to exchange ideas and build connections for projects. This will be the focus of the round table to be held in May 2017.
