The Centre for Development Studies (CDS) in collaboration with The Asia Foundation organised a Regional Labour Migration Workshop for key government and non-government stakeholders from Bangladesh, India, and Nepal on September 23-24, 2013 at CDS. The objective of the workshop was to initiate regional dialogues on pertinent issues of national and transnational labour migration that are essential to protecting the rights of migrant workers and making the process of migration safe and secure. The objective was to defining areas for regional collaboration on labour migration and human trafficking.

The workshop included a presentation and discussion on the recently completed regional labour migration research supported by The Asia Foundation entitled ‘Labour Migration Trends and Patterns: Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. The research was based on primary and secondary information sources that focus on understanding the dimensions of both regular and irregular labour migration and explores the links, if any, with labour exploitation and labour trafficking. The research also examined the factors promoting undocumented migration, and the formal/ informal linkages, between agents and recruitment agencies.
